The Greek Catholic Church:
The oldest documentary information about the Greek
Catholic Church have dated
since 1692. This religious community played a very
important part in the Romanian
people's life. Very important persons, members of
the Ardelean School (Samuil
Micu Klein, Gheorghe Sincai, Petru Maior) had been
attracted by this religious
movoment. All this important persons together
with the bishops:
Ignatie Darabant and Samuil Vulcan wrote and gave
to King Leopold the 2nd the
first political complaint of the Transilvanian people:
Supplex Libellus Valachorum.
The main direction of the Greek Catholic Church was
that of Education. Under the
communism government all the Greek-Catholic Church
structures were stated to be
nonexistent and all its members were persecuted by
the communism authorities.
All that time the Greek Catholic Church worked surreptitiously
(untill 1998--
the Romanian Revolution date). The community life
returned to normal in a very
short time. Vasile Hossu was named to be the bishop
of the Greek Catholic Church.
The Greek-Catholic Seminar was founded in 1992.
